About Spring of Culture 2009

We are delighted to present to you the 4th Spring of Culture Programme. This year the festival is inspired by voices and music
from around the world. Arad Fort events will start by celebrating Jerusalem as the 2009 Arab Capital for Culture with a concert
by the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, followed by a line up of award winning vocalists such as Angelique Kidjo
from Benin and Cuba’s Diva Omara Portuondo. The family programme continues to bring culture and fun to the family unit featuring the acclaimed Salzburg Marionette’s Sound of Music show at the Culture Hall and the famous children’s singer Dan Zanes in an unprecedented concert at Arad Fort.

As usual, Shaikh Ebrahim Center events will trigger the mind and soul with sophisticated performances starting with a play by Nidal
Al Achkar, then the enchanting voice of Fadia Tomb El-Hage and the enlightening thoughts of Fatema Mernissi. Not to be missed are the colourful events at the art galleries of Al Riwaq, Al Bareh and La Fontaine saving their most acclaimed artists and performances
for our festival.

This year we are introducing Spring of Culture Education Programme, where you will be able
to attend workshops and sessions by some of the performing artists in which they will share their skills and experiences. Also, in our attempt to protect the environment, Spring of Culture is taking its first steps at going green. We will be printing smaller and fewer promotional materials and using environmentally friendly paper. Hence, our website www.springofculture.org will be your main source for detailed and updated information, in addition to new organisational aspects that will enhance your attendance experience.

Spring of Culture 2009 will be yet another transformation for the festival that will thrill you with talent, sophistication and culture.

We look forward to seeing you there.
